RP HPS

If it's SL (and it's obviously out of warranty), I'd venture to say that either the RP API line or the HPS line would serve you well. For that matter, so would the older RP SL rated line. I'm sure there's plenty of that out on the shelves still, too.

Why do so many oil producers REFUSE to give HTHS specs?!!

Is it a particularly costly ASTM test/testing procedure, or do they just feel it is worthless???

Spoke to a RP tech line and they said the HPS is a more robust formula vs their old SL formula. Wouldn't give out spec numbers. Going to try it out. Got a case of HPS 5w30 from amazon for 69.99 shipped. Always used SL in am older LT1 but a lot of guys around here won't used it in their imports.

Wonder why the HPS 20W50 is alot more expensive? I`m guessing the final sale price depends on which retailer Amazon gets it from.

I don't know why, either, and it bugs me, too. I'm assuming RP and others do test for it. Heck, RP has grades that claim to meet European specifications that include HTHS figures.

Oil companies probably figure no one cares or understands. Most people look at the grade, and a select few actually pay attention to API/ILSAC or ACEA specifications. Fewer still are interested in HTHS.

Realistically, manuals tend to list at least one grade and usually some combination of API and ILSAC specifications. So, the conscientious buyer checks those, I suppose.
