After getting my rwhp up to ~400 in my Pontiac WS6, I was able to succesfully burn up my stock 4L60E transmission at the dragstrip. I took it over to a garage, for the trans overhaul, in Richmond, TX that was recommended by the speed shop(MTI) that does all my work. Wow, does it shift hard now.

Anyway, they said after I run the Dexron III they put in there for 10-12000 miles they recommend flushing it out and changing to Royal Purple Max ATF.

"Max ATF® is recommended for all automatic transmissions requiring Ford Mercon® or GM Dexron® III transmission fluids.

Max ATF® is a synthetic, high performance, long life, multipurpose, automatic transmission fluid. Max ATF® is more oxidation stable than other transmission fluids and greatly resists breakdown from heat and loss of proper lubricity.

Max ATF® is fully compatible and can be mixed with other automatic transmission fluids; however, for the best results drain or flush current oil and then fill with Max ATF®."

The owner of the shop is a dragracer himself and said that after trying the different synthetic ATF's this is the one he recommends. He, his car, & his transmission work have been in an article in GM High Tech Performance magazine.

I paid about $2500 for that little tidbit of information so I thought I would throw it out here for ya'll to chew on.

I use Royal Purple MaxGear 75W90 Gear Oil in my Diffs. I got a good deal on a case/12. I honestly think Red Line is a better product, though. I use Red Line ATF and MT-90 in my Toyota Manual and Auto Transmissions. Their GearOil is superior to anything. Racing or daily driver, I'd use RP or Red Line in the driveline!

I use RP max-gear in my diffs and in my BW super T -10 transmission with good results, but I have never used the transmission fluid. I am currently using schaeffer's blend and it seems to be doing well. The local Napa sells RP at excellent prices, so I use alot of their products.
