Rounded nut/bolt extractors

I plan on buying those Snap-on ones but I’m getting the deep ones as I already have the shallow ones that are Craftsman USA. A lot of people at work have those deep well ones and they are amazing.

I had some vintage 1980s Montgomery Ward extractor set I got my from my dad (when he worked in the store, he lets say loved to abuse his employee discount on the tools) that I recently broke trying to get a friends 13mm drain pan plug out.

The Mac Tool truck came by work, and well, decided to use my line of credit and buy https://www.mactools.com/products/sxmdpex8rbrt this.

I bought the Rocket Socket set last year per your recommendation. Bought my dad a set too. They’ve done their job so far. They’re impact rated, but I haven’t tried that yet. No dents in the teeth yet.

My original set is one from Craftsman. US made I think and the same as some tool truck brands. They aren’t sockets though. The fit inside a socket or wrench and can be a pain to use. Bought them in 2014 or so to take the rounded drain plug off the wife’s car.

Rocket socket came to my rescue tonight. I was pulling the intake on my 2.5L OM602.96 5-cyl turbo diesel, and hit an early snag with the intake cross pipe, which is held on with two Allen bolts.

One was rounded from beginning, but my bondhus ball head made it worse.

I have a set of Proto Allen bolt removers but they just stripped it more.

I wanted to get my eagle grip pliers on it but there wasn’t enough space. The jaws on those are sharp and can bite, but there isn’t room to turn. @The Critic recommended an extractor. I tried the 11 because the 10 didn’t fit. The 11 slipped, eating away some metal, so then I could hammer on the 10. It gripped and removed it in short order.
