So let me get this straight once and for all, using diesel oil in a gas engine will not harm it in any way even with the extra cleaning agents for soot ?

And it's helpfull to a old type flat tappet type egine right?

which is better between the deisel oils ?

Correct. Check the back and it will be SL or SM rated just like a regular bottle of oil is.

Rotella, mobil delvac, chevron delo are all good oils to use. If your application calls for a 40 weight then the 15W40 or 5W40 synthetic "might" work for your situation. If it calls for a 30 weight, going to a 40 weight probably wont make that much of a difference but I do not know for sure.

Ive used HDEO in the past in my Bonneville(160k) to clean it out after I had the dreaded upper manifold leak.

It worked great for a summer oil. I wouldnt be afraid to use it again.

so for a flat tappet cam engine thats in good shape the diesel oils are great because of the additives right?

I have no idea what oils they are supposed to run, back in the 70'80s most gm cars used 10w30 or 10w40 oil in the summer.

so is 15w40 ok for the summer.

I run Delo 400 LE 15W40 in my 1970 big block 383 Mopar engine. Plenty of protection (zinc & moly +) there.
