I've seen a PCMO SAE30 turn to burnt molasses, where the HDEO 15w40 looked exactly like it did when I installed it...same mowing conditions, same mower; completely obvious difference.
The SAE30 appeared "cooked" for lack of a better term...the second fill of HDEO looked fine. It was a very obvious difference...it didn't take a used oil analysis to tell me there was a problem.
