TBN 4.0

WAYNE: You went from a 5W/30 oil last time to a 5W/40 here and the engine didn't even notice. It certainly doesn't hurt anything going form a thinner oil in the winter to a thicker oil during the summer and your steady wear levels are proof of that. The additive package for this oil is quite a bit different than what we saw last time as well, and speaking of additive, you had a lot of active additive left, with the TBN reading at 4.0. That's not a problem until it drops to 1.0 or less. Since the engine is running good with the T6, we
suggest saying with it for now.

I'll be due for another oil change this weekend, and then another UOA.

Looks good. Did you notice any MPG hit from 30wt to the 40?

Once you are past 60k and out of warranty are you going to up the OCI? With a TBN of 4 @ 4,000 miles you prob can.

Thanks, Bill

Just an aside - I went to 15w-40 Delo in the wifes Forester and she saw no mileage hit coming from 5w-30 Havoline(!). Averaging right around 30MPG per the DIC with a 5M 50/50 mix of 40mph town/ 70mph interstate

I would talk to SOA and the service manager NOW and show them the UOA showing you can run 5K right now. Ask them if they are environmentally unconcious ...

They are not environmentally unconscious. They are boy racer conscious.

That"s who they market the cars to - or maybe 20 something racers. Maybe if FUJI didnt put filter screens in the turbo oil feed banjo fittings (and properly specd a good euro synthetic oil) they wouldnt get clogged up with subpar 5w-30 GF4 swill and toast.

Not disagreeing with you. Just saying their target audience makes a short OCI prudent.

Nice report!

Yes, turbo motor, standard 30 weight SM recommended, and target audience = low oci IMHO

Nice report! I would also push the uoa's a bit longer after the warranty period, as long as you're running a robust oil.
