I don't know about Rotella curing it, though. If it's bad enough that you can hear the clunk, then I doubt a switch to a slightly higher viscosity would make much difference.
The original poster is talking about a ONE year old Toyota Yaris.
I could see if someone chewed the bejeezus out of the thrust bearing over the course of 100K+ miles...but that's not the case here...which is why I responded with a chuckle.
