Rotella T Cured my Transaxle Clunk?

I thought that was the purpose of the crankshaft thrust bearing, and would not be affected by oil preassure?

With additional loads incurred by having a manual clutch, there would certainly be more wear inside the engine.
Some MT engines use the same thrust bearing as the auto trans version.
How could it not wear more?

Feeler gauges can be used to externally check the crank endplay - you don't need a bulky dial indicator.

Can't say about a Yota. But I've seen thrust bearing failure cause a 'clunk' when the clutch was actuated... seen it on several heavy trucks and a couple of tractors. I don't know about Rotella curing it, though. If it's bad enough that you can hear the clunk, then I doubt a switch to a slightly higher viscosity would make much difference.

The original poster is talking about a ONE year old Toyota Yaris.

I could see if someone chewed the bejeezus out of the thrust bearing over the course of 100K+ miles...but that's not the case here...which is why I responded with a chuckle.

Best,

Cars have faults from the factory. WRong or substandard parts happen here and there. So it is not necessarily the new owner's fault.
There are batches of ZX2s that had bad thrust bearings, for instance.

A Mazda 323 I owned had a recall for improperly machined crank thrust flange. Just surprised I could see a difference on the Yaris - didnt expect to - or expect the syntec to cause this much trouble. This car gets jackrabbited off of almost every light that has a clear road ahead, so it has 1000's of drag starts on the clock. Gotta keep my reaction time sharp

So...... You beat your cars like a redheaded stepchild and then make threads about them complaining that they are failing?????

I'm not sure it is logical to assume that something like a Yaris would stand-up to drag-style clutch dumps at every stop-light......
