I've got a new 2007 Toyota Tacoma 2.7L that I anticipate towing with in the spring. I'm currently using PP 5w20 in it, but am weary of the 20 wt. for extended towing. Would Rotella T 5w20 be a reasonable choice for this application? Would the additive package potentially damage the Catalytic converter? The Mfg. recommends 0w20 or 5w20 SM oils.

I can't understand why no one recommends 10W-30 anymore; this grade offers quieter operation than a 0W-20 / 5W-20, yet is still is not too heavy for cold temps. I'm just baffled by people's adversity against this grade.

Oops, I meant "Rotella T 5W40"

I use RTS in my 22r powered 85 Toyota however I'm thinking it might be tad too thick for your application. I've run Mobil 1 15w-50 before and it made my Toyota sluggish.

I'm a big fan of RTS however on a newer truck I would not us anything heavier than something such as Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w30. This oil is turning out some solid numbers and has the extra goodies I think your looking for. If that's still too thick then run M1 5w-30 SUV.

Thicker is not always better. What is the max oil spec for your Toyota?

I have a 2006 4x4 x cab with the same engine . T have run 10w/30 , 5w/30 ,and 2 runs of 5w/20 I like the 30wts .This engine has to be run hard in the mountains but it will go. I like the engine . I had a 92 v6 xcab 4x4 and my wife had an 84 4x4 with a 22r engine. This 2.7 runs better in the mountains than the 22r.

Use it ...don't use it

It won't effect much in a measurable way except fuel economy ..and that will depend on how fah frum heeah you drive in any event.

Do a UOA on each to prove it to yourself. No one bout with just about any oil is going to alter your life experience too much in any "bad" way.

The oil itself will take just about anything you can throw at it ..as will most other HDEO synths.

I see no reason to stray from the 0w or5w20. No need to use anything else. They are proven oils with ecellent results. Toyota requires ILSAC GF4 Energy conserving oil for your application. Save the Rotella 5w40 for the lawn mower. That's what I use in mine.
