Why more 10W-30? Is this just a natural byproduct of petrol-engine spec upgrades, or are manufacturers starting to push 10W-30 oils for use in the traditional fleets of diesel engines?
In my research Rotella had the highest concentrations of Zinc and Calcium vs the other HDEOs. Shell is also using mostly Group II now, so cold pumping is improved.
10W-30 will replace 15W-40 as the "usual" diesel engine oil viscosity in the near future. Both improvements in the oil and the quest for improved fuel mileage will be responsible.
I used 10-30 Rotella for 10 years in a Mercury Villager (Quest in disguise). Finally traded it with 212,000 on the clock, still running like new, and not using any oil. IMHO, it's a fine oil.
