I am going to order a cabin air filter, Rock Auto has two choices for the same part, one is "Regular Inventory" and one is "Wholesale Closeout", the closeout is cheaper,..any issues choosing the "wholesale closeout"?

Not for a cabin air filter! The brand you get might surprise you. Buy at least a couple so the shipping fee is split over more of them.

I think a lot of their wholesale closeout stuff was from Pep Boys-- I've gotten Champion branded stuff that was way more than spark plugs and that was sort of a "private brand" for them.

Yeah its a GM AC Delco Filter, I plan on order a few. Its cheaper than ordering anywhere else for me.

Actually the one thing rarely mentioned is the 30 day warranty.

Now, OBVIOUSLY with an air filter, this is irrelevant.

But I've been warrantying a lot of CV axles for failed boots. Here, lifetime vs 30 day can be a big deal. Clearly the closeout would be ideal for a vehicle you're flipping in this example.

And yes, I found closeout half shafts for a Subaru the other day, so this is not a hypothetical.

The risk with a closeout filter is that it has had a longer period to sit around and absorb the various odors in an auto parts storehouse -- rubber, oil, chemicals, etc. -- and may retain that smell, at least temporarily, and hopefully not permanently.

BTDT with such an RA filter, and there's a thread buried here somewhere about it, but mine did clear up after a few days.

OTOH, a non-closeout filter could have been sitting in the same kind of environment just as long.
