Road trip on new vehicle?

I would pick up my owner's manual before anything and read what it says about the break-in procedure. Many new engines aren't supposed to be driven at consistent highway speeds for X-amount of miles during the break-in period.

I don't think anything bad would happen, but why risk it if you have a lot of money invested in a new vehicle? I'd rather be safe than sorry and make sure it's okay to take it on the trip before worrying about an oil change.

Definitely after the trip. Those highway miles will be pretty easy on your Escape.

By 2800 miles, that engine was as broken in as it will ever get.
You removed all of the break-in wear particles as well as any manufacturing debris with your 2800 mile OCI.
I'd take your trip on the oil you now have in it with no worries at all.
In a day when most manufacturers recommend running the FF to the normal service interval, I don't think that break-in is all that serious of a concern.
OTOH, why pay any attention to the service advice offered by companies that build hundreds of thousands of engines each year when you can get conflicting advice from all of the experts here?
Contrary to the conspiracy theorists, most of us recognize that engines and their recommended service intervals reflect a wear budget with the goal of keeping the engine fully functional for the life of the machine as a whole, which is not infinite.

Wow,lots of diff answers. Thank you all for the advice. Manual says no steady freeway speed for 1,000 miles. According to the manual it should be broken in. Just was curious if I should do one more short drain before i go,but it looks like i should be all set with motorcraft 520. Thank you all so much.

I would keep it in, just keep an eye on the level at the filling station every time you get gas...

I had a little over 1,000 miles on the car when I took my then new 2014 Mustang GT on vacation going from Southwest MO to Galveston TX and back. I was still on the Original oil and filter and didn't change either out until about six months later at about 4,600 miles. This was when the car was one year old. I have used the OLM since then with no issues.

I think changing the oil early is a little overrated and for most people will make no difference since the engine will probably be the last thing that goes and most people will get rid of it way before the engine is toast.

My opinion is drive it with the current oil in it.
