Road & Track pushes Lucas oil stabilizer

This from the July 2007 Road & Track issue, Tech Correspondence pg 168.

"...For a mouse milk oil additive, we've done well with Lucas oil on dyno engines. Lucas oil products(XXX-XXX-XXXX,www.lucasoil.com) is a rather small Corona, California, company specializing in oil additive packages. They offer oil stabilizers for mineral and synthetic oils,which, among other things, promise no dry starts..."

This is part of editor Tom Wilson's reply to a reader who writes in worried that there Corvette may need an oil additive to prevent dry starts after two or three weeks with no starts.

I have seen analysis of Lucas oil stabilizer here on this site and I have seen nothing that will prevent dry starts.

Does anyone else care to comment?

Maybe he thinks the high viscosity will help oil stick to the parts during weeks of sitting.

Is Road & Track an authority on lubrication? Maybe they are just paying the bills. This kind of stuff is like the testimonal where someone writes, I used xxx oil additive and felt the difference on the very first drive. It increased my mileage and made my engine run smoother. That testimonial means absolutely nothing to me but this kind of stuff gets repeated over and over agin. It could be that I'm just not smart enough to get the message.

Considering GM says don't put any additives in your oil, the statement from R & T is questionable at best.

oil alanisys isnt how one would test for preventing dry starts.

Someone should tell Road & Track about Auto-RX. Maybe they would test it.

Road and Track is hit or miss in their lube advice. More often than not they consult one of their advertisers.

I have never heard of Road and Track testing any oil. I dunno how they get off recommending any oil or additive at all. I do enjoy the fabulous photography of this magazine but I wish they would clamp their mouths when it comes to recommending products. I myself think Lucas will foam in an engine and cause sludge over time. I used to suscribe to Car and Driver but they became to adolescent for my tastes and now when I am happy with a magazine they show juvenile traits with obscure recommendations...........
