Too bad that no one at Michelin today has any idea as to what wet traction is.

****************

François Michelin, the man who transformed the Michelin tire company into a global powerhouse, has passed away at the age of 88.

Michelin came in as co-managing partner in 1955, and helped make the Michelin X Radial (which was introduced in the 1940s) into the global standard. When he left the company in 2002, Michelin had become the world’s largest tire maker.

The last 4 sets of Michelin tires I have had were not worth the $$. Forget Michelin in my book. I bought 2 sets of Kumho tires for the price of 1 set of Michelin and they run just fine.

I run Michelins on my son's X3(Premier A/S), wife's 3er(Primacy MXM4 ZP), and as the summer tires on my MS3(Pilot Super Sport). I've found all three tires to perform extremely well in the wet, and the surveys at Tire Rack corroborate my experience.

You are right; I should have taken Dilbert's sage advice...

So now instead of merely trolling every tire post that contains Michelin you are making trolling threads as well.

If you're buying tire models that focus on long treadlife and LRR, then something else has got to give, for example wet traction.

Do your homework and pick the model that focuses on the qualities that are important to you, remembering that there are always trade offs.

I am no Michelin fan but I find it hard to believe they produce NO tire that has good wet handling. Remember every tire maker has their good/better/best lines of tires so maybe you never had their better or best tire.

It seems whomever at Michelin invented the LTX MS/2 had more than an idea

But they are so expensive..... I can't wait until the junk Pirellis wear out on my '14 and I can put Pilot Super Sports on it.

I've run Pilot Super Sports down to the wear bars and had zero hydroplaning.

Friends of mine have run them bald -- even down to the cords -- and had the same result.

The Contis that were OEM on my Outback lasted 38k miles, and failed to stay round, for that duration. I replaced them with Costco Defenders, which were the same price as everyone else's econo tire......They have 47k on them, are about half worn, and STILL ROUND! They also show no odd front to rear wear......I rotate every 10k, though I can never see any identifiable difference, front to rear. I had to rotate the Contis every 5k, or they would start some odd edge wear.

That, all my other previous experience with Michelins, and how much better they work on my motorcycles than everything else I have tried........Michelin gets my business, until something amazingly better comes along.

I like Michelins overall. But in the 1980's I bought all my cars (mustangs,T-Birds) with the Michelin TRX tire system on them,(15.3" Dia) I was told by many that TRX's were the greatest inovation ever in tire tech..... Now these cars just sit, cant be used, becauce of tire availability, Its sad I cant drive these great cars, Some only have less than 20,000 miles.

seems they didn't make the II version long, replacing them with III. Wonder why? One bud riding adventure touring likes the new Pilot Road Trail

You can still buy the TRX tires, they're just expensive and very out of date tech-wise. But most of those cars can have standard non-TRX wheels put on them to widen the choice of tires available.
