This afternoon, we had to put our "little girl," an 18 year old Seal Point Siamese named Jasmine to rest.
We got her in 1995, one year after my wife and I got married. She was a very talkative, outgoing cat with the personality of a dog. She brought us, family, friends and anyone who met her much joy and pleasure.
She got up with me most mornings when I went to work and greeted me when I came home at night. She truly made our house a home.
Unfortunately, time catches up with all of us. As she got older, she developed arthritis and kidney issues. Over the last couple of weeks, the arthritis became more pronounced and she started to drop weight, and it became obvious her kidneys were starting to fail. She fought like a trooper, trying to eat and drink and be attentive to both my wife and myself.
Last night, my wife and I sat down to decide what to do. She came up and sat down next to me. Looking into her eyes, it became obvious that she was in pain and experiencing a great deal of discomfort.
Today was a very stressful day for the three of us, however Jasmine is in a much better place. We are experiencing pain but she no longer is.
If an animal can make someone a better person, I certainly am a better person for spending the last 18 years with her. If there is a heaven, this animal deserves to be there. RIP Jasmine, we love you.
P.S. Hopefully the picture downloaded, if not, I would appreciate if a moderator could fix it. Thanks.
