I don't follow the NBA, but Mutombo passed the same day as Pete Rose. He had an awesome career; this is my only recollection of him.

I had the honor to meet him in the early 2000's. He was an incredibly nice gentleman and very gregarious. I believe he spoke 9 languages, although 4 of them were variations of African dialects.
He was very generous to so many causes. RIP. Cancer sucks...
