Rinse out the paper air filter

anyone ever rinse the briggs paper air filter lightly? then let dry and reuse?
tons of dirt come off it mid season.

No, just like disposible diapers: I don't rinse them and reuse paper air filter of all kinds(it's actually synthetic fibre based filtering media, most likely woven and fibres resin-bonded).

To keep my cost low: I tend to shop for bulk packs online and just stock up on them. Replace them when my B&S 675 starts rough or runs rich.

If you use water it will swell and shape will distort, something petroleum based can be used, but carb cleaner may destroy any rubber used in the construction(charcoal lighter would probably work but takes some time to evaporate)... If I don't have a fresh one on hand, I'll blow them out with compressed air but that's mostly a temporary measure...

Once a month I pop the filter out and shake loose the big debris. That's all you can really do.
