Ok so I decided to run nothing but Valvoline 5w30 conventional in my 2009 gmc sierra 5.3 with afm, I change out that oil at 3k miles, no oil consumption, no irregular noises. Yesterday I dumped out the Valvoline conventional and refilled with 5w30 pp, and well so far I regret it, my engine has a noticeable tick now at start up, what do you guys think?

I used Valvoline conventional for years with no issues, vehicles anywhere from 0 miles to nearly 200k.
Can't speak for the pp, but you can't argue with what works.
One question though: are you using the same filter as you did with the Valvoline conventional?

This is not the first time i have read things like that happening. It seems it is always Valvoline conventional vs Mobil but this time it is PP. Just go back to what was working simple as that!!

Yep, Valvoline conventional it is, only thing now is, when do I dump that pp? I was thinking about doing two oil changes with Valvoline conventional then every third one I'll probably use Pennzoil Platinum or Pennzoil Ultra, to help clean up after that conventional oil.
You don't have to clean anything if you've used 3000 mile OCI's. Live with the tick, go back to Valvoline conventional for the rest of eternity.

Of course, there is no guarantee that the tick won't go away by itself during this OCI. I would just relax and observe.

I have always used MC 5W20 in my truck (Castrol, Mobil Super 5000, and Valvoline conventional, once each) and used PP this last OCI. This is the first time I have used a full synthetic in this engine and it's actually quieter now.
I will probably go 3K-6K miles
and go to Mobil Super 5000 or Pennzoil conventional.

try it out a few weeks and see if anything changes. is Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 notably thinner than Valvoline 5w30 conventional? this could be the cause of slightly more audible lifter noise.
if its just a minor lifter tick i would run the PP a few thousand miles to cushion the cost of it and then dump it and go back to the Valvoline conventional. i hate a noisy/ticky engine.
