Since this topic was resurrected, I wish to retract my statement because I can't find the answer. What I did find:
When installing a NEW appliance, the mfg. manual recommends installing a new flex gas line. Numerous DIY sites of questionable worth recommend using new flex gas lines during an install, but don't differentiate between new and reconnecting the same line.
I asked at a another forum for info on the National Fuel Gas Code (no answer) and my assertion and got:
"most of us here have loosened a gas flexible connector and tightened it back up again."
"the codes often defer to the manufacturers recommendations and they say not to reuse gas flex lines"
"the manufacturers of those flex connectors generally recommend that they not be reused. When the appliance is REPLACED, it is prudent to replace the connector"
"There have been cases where a reused gas flex has developed a crack near the flare nut, and since it could happen spontaneously, we do not reuse them."
So, no one answered if there are codes about this and there are mixed opinions about reusing them. I suppose liability is an issue here and nobody knows what the conditions are.... loosen/retighten in the same location, or remove and bounce around in the back of a pick up, then reuse.
