Retirement 2.0

I’ve had nothing but jobs never a career I loved and enjoyed if I make it to retirement it’ll be a blessing. 2050 can’t come soon enough

I'm out effective January 5th. My wife wanted to have a retirement party for me but I gave her a definite no- and told her that I'd be doubly ticked off if I had a "surprise" party. I had also emailed my staff and told them that, while I appreciated the thought, I neither wanted or expected any retirement presents- and I repeated that I did not want a retirement party. I also promised to reward anyone who ratted out anyone attempting to organize anything along that line. Thanks to my first assistant, she heard of a surprise retirement party being planned by the judge and made sure it was nixed. I hope she succeded, or I will NOT be happy.
All to their own, you do get to make that call. I don't judge it at all.

For me, my kids want to throw me one soon. For them, I will play along.

Congrats.

When I retired early almost 23 years ago, I did so by announcing to my employees that I had sold my business. Part of my agreement to do so, was that the new owners make a good faith effort to retain my former employees. The employees seemed to be sad I was leaving. For several years after I would occasionally hear from one or more that I was missed.

At any rate, I took up a hobby that became a consulting job. I enjoy that too, and have made lots of friends in that line of 'Work'. Even though in recent years I took a break from that for several years. In 2024 I got back into it a bit. 2025 might be the same.

The great thing about being 'retired', is that you get to choose what you want to do. There's often still not enough time in the day.

This might be my last year working, I got enough retirement to make it till 100 years old.

I won’t be on my death bed trying to be Employee of the Month…..
or clicking a mouse running spreadsheet reports for my boss / emailing business partners and clients.

Retire and enjoy all your free time.

Congrats. Will you be having a party? 😎

I’ve got about 32 years yet then I’m done. 🤡

dlundblad,

Not really, I’m not a party person.
Luckily I planned for retirement and kept my spending low.
I’m a small business owner so I’ll keep busy with that…. just retiring from my job working for the big man.

MCompact,

Sounds like fun instructing at high performance driving school.
