Hi, new here, have a question, has anyone tried this stuff called restore? I have a very high mileage prizm, it uses some oil, about a qt.in a thousand mi. would this stuff help, or is it garbage?

I personally used it before in a high milelage Cadillac and I was surprised it ran much better and a puff of blue smpke at start up disappeared. On a high milelage car with some oil usage, it cant hurt. I have to say this is one product, I believed worked. I did not have luck with Rislone or Motor honey or Stp oil treatment.

I consider Restore the product of last resort. At this point it is worth a shot.

I've not found anything that can get a handle on oil consumption when it's down in the 1 quart per 1,000 miles range. Give it a try it and let us know what happens.

I tried it in an engine that had some 365-370000 kilometers on the odometer, at that time.

Restore did not do anything at all with oil burning, MPG or the way the engine performed.

Since it is quite cheap, go ahead and try it, you could be lucky.

I haven't seen it has done any harm, either.

Several users seem to have seen positive results, with it.

Tell us if it does anything, or not.

Well lets see, it burnes/uses 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles. If you drive 20,000 miles per year thats 20 quarts. Estimating cost of oil at $3.00 per quart thats $60.00 per year.

I doubt thats even 3 fillups. Sounds like a built in upper cylinder lube.

Many auto makers would consider a qt of oil used/1000 miles to be normal. Ask anyone who took a new car back to a dealer for oil consumption issues, not a leak.

Restore will only fill scratchs in metal with the content of copper in it's formulation. That's why Mola warns of throwing off an UOA. It will not help with valveguide seals etc. I would stay away from it and just add your quart per thousand. Try a thicker grade of high mileage oil and see it that helps.

yup, 1.8, 184000mi. runs fine doesn"t smoke, bought a can $6.00, put it in, I will see how it works, will let you know. figured can"t hurt. read many reviews said it works good.

Sounds like he is well passed Oil Analysis!

The author didn't say oil analysis was off the table and anyone contemplating using these additives should be aware of unintended consequences.

I would first try cleaning the engine and then use a High mileage oil such as Mobil 1 HM or similar.

These engines have never been noted for tight oil sealing.

Restore uses an old 1978 patent in which microspheres of copper, steel, and lead are suspended in an oil carrier.

The theory is that these spheres would be forced into asperities and fill in voids created by wear. The steeel would be theoretically forced into cyclinder walls, etc, and the lead and copper would be forced into bearings.

The problem from a trobological viewpoint is: how do these little guys (spheres) know where to go and to which metals to attach?

In my view, it's only a temporary fix at best, and only until you can get the engine rebuilt.

I also see the problem with the small particles of copper, steel and lead, going to the "correct" places.

With the ceramic products being discussed here, I know that it(RVS, Cermax) seeks to the hot spots, and settles there.

The hot spots inside an engine, are the ones that are most worn.
If the engine is in perfect shape, very little will happen.

This is why some of these ceramics additives can give an engine new life.

+1 It is made from all soft metals.
