Restaurant adding things to your bill.

When they bring my bill, I ask if they have tap-to-pay. If they don't have a machine which can be brought to the table, I will get up and go to a terminal with this capability. When paying this way, and if a gratuity isn't already on the bill, you have 100% control of the tip amount. I use Apple Pay via my Apple Watch so at no point is my CC even removed from my wallet.

Ahhh modern day restaurants and tipping. Crap service at a premium am I right?

Went to a restaurant the other day and they put us in between 2 raging parties in a back room. I look at the host and I'm like....what about all those empty booths we walked by?

"Oh, it's how we split work up for our waiters"

I was going to say; "I don't care about how you balance your staff, I don't want to sit in between 2 loud parties" but didn't want to be even slightly confrontational to someone involved with my meal.

We got the booths but not going back there again. Most restaurants around here suck big time. IDK how people say getting into the restaurant business is hard. Maybe not here. When all the restaurants except for 1 have chipped dinnerware cups and so-so food, I think I can open up my own place, try half as hard, and beat the competition. I'll name the restaurant "Chimmies"

Mistakes like this happen all the time. It's not a big deal, just tell the server and they'll get it removed. Depending on the POS system, somebody may have put in the wrong table number and this check popped out the two separate orders for the same table.
Of course when you say "POS" you mean Point of Service. Given the nature of the discussion it could mean something else.

For a minute, I thought you were talking about Olive Garden.

With the World Cup coming to the US, many restaurants/servers are concerned about customers from non-tipping cultures, therefore are choosing to automatically add 20% to the bill. This type of "service charge" is normal for sit-down restaurants in London, but if the service wasn't up to your standards, you can ask to have it removed. What is NOT added, is an additional screen asking for a tip. Tip jars are becoming a bit more commonplace there, but is still rare.

Errors are almost always in favor of the restaurants. Same thing with checkouts at almost any store. When a price rings up different from what is shown on the shelf, it's rarely lower.
I have tipped in many of these countries - even when they don’t have a line on the ticket - not once was it refused by the workers - and could not care less what the rich but cheap customers had to say …
Next time I walk in the service is great - funny how that works 🧐

That looks like AI. She's got the generic AI face and no server would put 40% for an example either; 15, 18, 20%, or bust.

Good servers will show how to do the math for 20% as well. I have never come across one that did it from 10% - although mathematically that way is simple too.

I just don't patronize these types of establishments, GO ELSEWERE .Maybe the people who own the place could pay the employees better rather than begging for tips.

Hopefully an honest mistake. I tip well but I despise when people demand a certain percent. I give what I want and I still tip even when service is less than stellar. I see where people post that there should be a minimum tip, if you cannot afford to tip then do not go out to eat. I say if you cannot afford to live off what you make, get another job where they pay you enough to live off. I started off working in restaurants but I knew that I could not survive off that so I got a better job.

I'd be hard pressed to pay over $15 for a quality burger and that should include a side or 2. Getting food away from home is more for convenience from my perspective as a great meal can be thrown together at home far cheaper and usually better. To each their own, but the stomach is full/brain content from a $6-8 serving the same as it is when 4-5x higher in cost.

They do but varies on state. In IL, if a server's claimed tips for the shift equals less than tipped-employee minimum wage per hour ($9), the restaurant must cover the difference.

In some other states (like MN), tipped employees are paid the same as non-tipped employees.

The profit margins are crazy low too, like 3% so either they raise the price of menu items to cover the difference or tipping continues. At least with tipping, the server has an incentive to be as efficient and friendly as possible.
