I just got a call from my son stationed at NAS Whidbey Island, and he had a question regarding his 323i brake light. The amber light was on indicating he needed brake pads, so he replaced them and wanted to know how to reset the light. All 4 brake pads were replaced. Disconnecting the battery didn't work. How is this done?

As always thanks!

Once the sensors have been triggered they must be replaced. There should be one on one of the front brakes and one on the opposite side at the back. They are not too expensive - maybe $20 each.

It is likely that only one of the sensors was triggered. If he knows which pads were worn close to the metal then he should be able to change only the sensor that has been triggered.

The front brakes were the worst, the backs had some meat left but he figured he'd do them before the bad weather sets in.

I am guessing the sensor is connected to a plug with a short wire? And once apart you simply unplug it and install the new one?

Thanks, I will relay the info!

it is a wire that plugs into a connector on the car. The sensor plugs into the brake pad, and after the pad wears some amount, it wears the sensor open. At that point the light comes on...
