I am using that "spark plug extension" technique to stop my P0420 code on my 1998 LS400. I got the sensor removed. I got the extension screwed in. Now, if you have done this you realize as you screw the 02 sensor in it will twist the rubber harness to the point it's hard to tighten the 02 sensor. So, I went and tried to reverse twist the 02 sensor hoping it would work out that when I got the 02 sensor tightened there would be no twist in my rubber harness. I was unsuccessful after 2 attempts.

Notice, I am not replacing my 02 sensor. Just reinstalling it.

My question is what to I have to do to unclip the 02 wiring harness? It goes up under my floorboard somewhere. Or do I just twist the 02 sensor a few more revolutions before I try to put it back in to tighten?

I don't want to break any wires.

Yes but inside the vehicle which is typical for the rear sensor. Sometimes you can get to the connector through a flap or slit in the carpeting but sometimes you have to remove a seat. It just depends.

There should be a cut out in the carpet where you can access the O2 pigtail plug. Either under the front seat or just behind the front seat, toward the rear, about where the rear passenger would be tucking their feet or thereabouts. However, IDK in your particular car, if it's on the driver or passenger side. Have a look.

Hope this helps,

CB

i "backtwisted" my sensor wires on several VAG cars VW + Audi, my wires run to a small box under the car + removing said wires from clips that keep them away helps.

Oh man, yeah, removing/installing o2 sensors while plugged in, story of my life... Ya gotta really twist it many times in the wrong direction to get it right when it's installed. Or just unplug it (easier said than done sometimes).

The connector is under the carpet between the tunnel & floor mats. I've done many & just count the number of turns the sensors takes to come out & add a couple & twist the harness to install. Or take out the sill plate, unbolt the seat & lean it back to access the connector

I had an LS400, you'll need to remove the floorboard trim and put your hands underneath the footwell carpet. I'm not a fan of excessively twisting wiring.

Do this to do it properly.

By the way, it is a $48 sensor at RockAuto plus a little bit of shipping.

CARB doesn't really care about that you post - but the guy at the smog shop will do a visual. The ones who are good at their job and want to stay in BAR's good graces know what to look for.

Thank you for your advice. I can't twist it enough to make it work. Fiddle sticks!!!!

I got it in and no codes....WooHoo

But it got too many twists and is hanging a little too low.

The rest of the country are not like they are in CA, many states don't give a rats rear what is under the car.

I love you, Trav.....In an absolutely platonic nonphysical way.

Didn't you misspell a-s-s?

Gee where are all those people that are always commenting about how people are driving luxury cars but can't afford to fix them? I figured they would have jumped in by now.
