So I'm an avid user of Spybot and it's Tea-Timer for my friends that aren't so computer savvy and for myself because I do visit some questionable sites at time in search for things.

Anyways... Spybot has become somewhat of a pig on resources and likes to overhead laptops like my partners HP.

I wanted to know if there is anything out there comparable to Spybot in it's great defense which doesn't pig-out on resources and that is FREE if possible.

In the time that I have had Spybot I have never been infected with any spyware/malware because it has done such a great job working hand in hand with my anti-virus which is E-SET Smart Security.

Yeah not so much on Desktops that can throw the heat away well but laptops that throttle down to save the CPU from overheating.

Also if you look at how much memory it's using it goes from anywhere from 60mb to 150mb depending on what it's doing.

It's ok again in my Desktop that has 4gb of ram but a laptop that doesn't have the higher amount or has a smaller data throughput because of less pins on the smaller memory chips it really slows down the system.

I just want something that works as fast and well as E-SET and not like the pig Norton is all.

I have a paid subscription to 'The Doctor' It's yours free if you want it? I can PM or email you the key when I find it. I have to tell you though this really is just fiddling around the edges. Load NIS 2011 beta and MalwareByes as a backup scanner and forget about malware and infections and almost zero load on resources.

MalwareBytes is great. SuperAntiSpyware.com is also very good. For SAS, you can download a trial of their paid Pro version for 30 days. It has real time active protection and uses very little resources. During one of the updates while you are running the trial you should see options for something like a lifetime license for around $29 with additional licenses at something like $19. I run this on 4 of our computers and it is good.
