The Kenmore finally died last week. It was not draining and the water overflowed to the floor, wife mopped it up, and it happened again. Shut off water and electricity and found Rona Canada had a good sale and $100 CAD coupon deal so we got a Bosch Series 300 with the 3 racks.

The old Kenmore was from 2001. The racks were rusting, it only worked on 2 cycles (all we needed BTW) and I decided 10 years ago that I would not repair if it died. The only repair I had to perform was replacing the RH door rope, pretty amazing service!

The Bosch was straightforward to install, other than the having to re-route the wiring that supplied the juice. And no, I really doubt the Bosch will last as long.
My son asked me why I wanted to install myself? " the first dishwasher I installed was when I was 14 in my parents house in Vancouver and back then you had the same amount of connections as you do now...so why not?"

Okay, I am not counting the app on the phone to allow you to control the 2025 Bosch. Why? I have no idea.

I suspect you will be very happy with the Bosch. I installed a Bosch in our kitchen 12 years ago, and it is still running strong. The lettering for the cycle selection has worn off, but we almost always leave it on the auto cycle, so no problem there. And there are a few small rust spots on the racks. I love how quiet it is.

In my opinion, one of the best features is one I hope to never use. It has a plastic tray under the tub, with a water sensor. If it ever leaks, it will shut off the water and drain itself. I believe your 300 series has this feature also. Perhaps competitors also have similar features now. I don't know. But they should.

And yes, you are right. It is so easy to install a dishwasher, I don't know I would pay someone to install one.

We have a Bosch, best dishwasher (out of three) we’ve had yet. Very quiet and cleans well, even on the speedy 1 hr cycle we leave it set on.

I'd highly recommend using a dishwasher cleaner that goes in the bottom rack roughly every 4 months or so. This will prevent long term build-up and keep your dishwasher running great. Lemmishine makes one that goes into the dispenser slot another version is a liquid that has a wax plug that melts then releases a liquid and cleans.

We have a water softener for all the house plumbing, so the hard water issues are not a problem. The old Kenmore had a pulverizer pump that meant food debris was never an issue. Bosch has user accessible filters that must be removed and rinsed, but I have no idea of how often this will be needed. My wife tends to rinse off dishes before they go into DW, I will - once again - try to convince her this is wasting water and the new machine doesn't need that OCD practice.

It isn't a hard water issue but even with filters and rinsing, grease and grime do slowly accumulate over time in a dishwasher. You'd be surprised at how much build-up the drain hose accumulates, which can lead to plugging up burning up the pump. Just a thought. As someone who worked maintenance for an apartment complex it makes a difference.

I’ve found once a month to be sufficient, there’s normally very little debris in the filter.

Parents have the 300, I dont like it.
Kid has the 800. I like it.
Mom and Dad (that'd be my wife and I) have a Miele - still the king.

I don’t think major appliances will come close to lasting as long as compared to 10+ year-old machines
We too, have had all our original major appliances still working 16 years later after we bought our home. We just sold that home, washer, dryer, refrigerator, dishwasher still working perfect.
Kenmore elite and whirlpool products

I would think in our new home with all new appliances. We will be lucky to get 10 trouble free years out of them and I will be happy ready for new ones which I will proactively replace 🙃
