Hi Guys,

My Dewalt hammerdrill DCD786 (20v) died on Friday night. Was drilling in through my garage wall into the basement to run a new 240v line for a larger air compressor.

Thing provided a smoke show when I was trying to drill through a basement joist.

Anyone replace the brushes on a drill like this? If so where did you get your replacement brushes from?

I found this part online https://www.ereplacementparts.com/brush-ring-assembly-p-956431.html

Odds are that smoke is a sign you overheated it and burnt something, not that it just needs new brushes. Take it apart and assess the damage, not just buying new brushes assuming that will fix it.

Over heats that let the smoke out aren't good. If the varnish on the windings melts or you see blobs of solder brushes aren't going to help

When electrical or electronic products / parts are manufactured , a small amount of smoke is encapsulated in the part . You let the smoke out of it , it stops working . Some larger products contain a larger amount of smoke .
