Got this as a rental - normally don't write these up but I liked this one so thought I would. It's a 2023 with 53k miles (and it shows). I think it's the Premium Plus trim - has leather, heated/cooled front seats, heated rear seats, sunroof, HUD, adaptive cruise. Only option it doesn't have is the tow package or the turbo engine.

Overall, I enjoyed it.

Pros: The ride is excellent, smooth but not mushy and the handling is great. It's not BMW sharp, but still, much better to drive than an Equinox/Terrain or an escape or Rav4 (driven all of those recently). Very quiet on the highway. The AC works great as do the cooled seats. The refinement and equipment for the price (like $37k MSRP) are impressive.

Cons: Power - but the turbo would solve it. I had the 2.5T in a Mazda 3 rental earlier this year and that had some pep to it. Otherwise, my only complaint is no panoramic sunroof and the infotainment. I get some people like the iDrive thing, but at least make it touch screen too - like BMW does. In my wife's X3 I like having both options. The knob was also coming unattached from the center console, but probably just rental abuse.

Also for fun, put it up on ramps to test the flex. Of course, it'll never flex like my Wrangler, but it made it up easier than my old KL Cherokee did or my Rene Trailhawk did, kept all 4 on the ground, and the front has as much flex as the rear, so it stayed relatively flat.

Love my '16.

Wife is going to get either a CX-5 or RAV4 hybrid. I hate to say it, but the RAV4 *hybrid* is quieter, and rides better than the '24 CX-5. Course, it's many thousands more dollars, too, and that battery... :(

Only a Jeep guy would flex a rental cute ute. :ROFLMAO: Well done. (y)

Think it has room for 33s?
LOL! I was actually thinking with some ATs it'd actually look pretty cool. It wouldn't look weird like they would on a BMW or Audi or Lexus.

I was hoping the heated/cooled seats in the new facelift models were nice but they look the same as my '19. They're the most uncomfortable car seat I've been in.

That's interesting, I'm having some back pain after driving it too. Normally don't get any.

Yea it's one of the biggest complaint about the car. Seats are too uncomfortable and the headrest positioning is too far forward (for crash protection) and is brutal past 4 hours for me, my shoulders die after that. I thought they updated it but unfortunately not; supposedly the Japanese version has less aggressive headrests.

Based on the pics, it looks surprisingly good for over 50K miles worth of rental service in ~2yrs.

I test drove a 23 CX-5 and then ended up with a Forester. Really liked the Mazda, just thought the Forester was much more comfortable. It was a nice car for the money though.

My wife has had her 2024 CX-5 since November 2023 and she loves it. Nice car.

Thanks for the review the wife and I have been looking at a Mazda for her.

My gf has a 20’ CX-5 she loves it. Has around 53k on it.

I never noticed how popular they were till I had the rental one, but I definitely see the appeal!

We love our 23 CX-5!!! Same color as your rental. I disagree about the power. We have no turbo and have driven it through the mountains out west with no issues. Keep it simple with the Skyactive system. Its an incredible motor as is. Put it in sport mode if you want to play.

I'm used to the sport mode in the X3 where it makes it a whole different vehicle - tried it in this and didn't notice a big difference other than holding gears longer.

Not to say it was bad on power - but I'd put it in the same league as my Wrangler. Sufficient, but not fast. My wife's old 2.0 Ecoboost escape, the X3, 2.0 turbo jeeps I've driven have all been faster.

I must say Sport mode is pretty un impressive. It behaves like tow-haul mode on a pickup truck. Check out the Mazda CX-50 if you want to do some off roading. Its Mazda's attempt to move into that market segment, kind of silly and unsuccessful I think.
