Hello,

Looking at my options for an alternator for my 82 MB 300CD, which has been putting out 12.8V under load but recently seems to only be giving me 11.8V.

Obviously I will clean up, check grounds, etc., but at 162k and nearly 30 years, it may be time...

If so, anyone have opinions on Remy rebuilt alternators? Ive typically used Bosch rebuilds, but Remy seems to offer a lot of rebuilt alternators and does a decent set of checks to verify performance/quality. Any experience?

Yes it does, I am also looking at that as an option - at least to pull it and look at the brushes. Assuming they still have material, I still may need to replace. Ill try to diagnose first of course, but want to be aware of the options...

The regulator/brush replacement is the cheapest way to go. I have a new set as a spare "just in case"...I think it cost around $25. Hopefully and probably that is all that is wrong with yours.

We have used them a few time without issue.Like anything rebuilt it depends on how careful the person was doing the rebuilding.
If it goes a few weeks without problem then chances are it will go the distance.

You may get better voltage with new brushes/regulator.
But those bearings are gonna be dry -no doubt.

Bosch makes very good rebuilds. There track record is extra good with these. But you pay for it!
