Here's a first hand review:
I found out the hard way that Jasper struggles to reliably rebuild something as common as a GM 5.3 engine.
Went through 3 of them (under warranty) in less than one year. All work was performed by an authorized Jasper installer.
Best choice if available.Get a crate engine![]()
The shop was finally provided an engine that seems to run properly, if that's what you mean by "corrected". However, this last engine is shedding a high amount of lead during even relatively short OCIs, and this is clearly shown in UOAs.Jasper was one I was thinking about too! Thanks for the response. At least under warranty! Did it get corrected?
My Dad bought a Jasper 300ci Ford I6 for an 82 F150. Developed a rod knock (if not more than one) within 100 miles after install. One of the tougher motors ever built, for reference.Jasper was one I was thinking about too! Thanks for the response. At least under warranty! Did it get corrected?
You asked for advice. This is what I would do if I were you.Either a oem long block or if the engine isn't known for issues I would try to find a low mileage used.
So you don't need a professional installer to keep the motor warranty? My Dad bought a Jasper 300ci Ford I6 for an 82 F150. Developed a rod knock (if not more than one) within 100 miles after install. One of the tougher motors ever built, for reference.
Second one was fine. Replaced under warranty, no labor costs involved since we did the install but lots of time lost. Idk why he went rebuilt. I was advocating to build it ourselves. Would have been better off and hopped up. Lol. I think he just wanted the warranty.
If not it just gives them an excuse to not warranty it. They all pretty much want a business to do the work.So you don't need a professional installer to keep the motor warranty?
It's got 203k on it and I replaced the radiator and water pump and timing about 2 years ago and got a code for timing belt had jumped a cog. That's another $1000 to $1500 and remanufactured engine is 0 miles for another $1000 to $2000. So just checking on what others have to say.I bought a Marshall reman engine. The first one had to be replaced after 15 minutes due to oil pressure issue. But the second one was fine.
How about a local machine shop rebuilding yours?
What's wrong with your current engine?
Should've said another $1000 to $2000 on top of the $1500 that it would cost to do the timing belt again. It's got 203k on it and I replaced the radiator and water pump and timing about 2 years ago and got a code for timing belt had jumped a cog.
