"Regular" vs. HM adds

Interesting, to me at least, is how radically different the add packs are in some high-mileage oils from their "normal" cousins. For instance, Castrol GTX is known for big sodium, but GTX High Mileage has 76 ppm of boron, and no sodium. Likewise, Mobil Super 5000 has a pinch of titanium, and a blast of sodium. Mobil Super HM, however, has a pinch of moly and no sodium. Super S follows this pattern with big sodium in the PCMO variety, and and moly/boron in the HM variety. MaxLife, though, has a similar-looking add pack to Valvoline conventional. And Pennzoil High Mileage also uses a similar-looking add pack in the HM as in Pennzoil Conventional.

Seems weird.

I don't find it weird at all, many ways to skin a cat, especially when dealing with chemistry. Depends on many factors, the people involved, pricing, past results, etc. If it does the job I'm fine with it.
Some say don't like sodium add pack cuz marker for coolant but potassium is too.

The "regular" Castrol GTX hasn't had the big sodium additive package for a long time. Here's PQIA's test of 5W-20 from November of 2013 (only 7 ppm):
