I've used Redline 75w-90 NS in my 96 BMW final drive as it has no slip modifiers. The factory spec. of Castrol SAF-XO is a syn 75w-90 with no slip modifiers.
BMW now states for all final drive to use Castrol SAF-XJ which is a standard GL5 with additives for limited slip.
Few people in the BMW crowd draw the distinction between the Redline NS and Castrol SAF-XO.
There are few OE's who spec a fluid without slip modifiers, Land Rover being one of them.
In taking to Dave at Redline, he said it was correct in at least relating the two in that again, NS has no slip modifiers.
Dave also added a big BUT in that he would prefer I run the standard Redline 75w-90 and not the NS. Why I asked?
His response was essentially that if the application allowed (and in my case we know it would with all the M1 and RP final drive users out there and BMW stating to use SAF-XJ) the standard Redline 75w-90 was a much more robust product and would hold up better. Dave told me no longer than two years on the NS in the final drive.
What fluid is called for in the cup car?
