Redline MTL getting better still.

Awhile back I installed Redline MTL in my manual transmission. Shifting quality still keeps getting better the more I drive it. No more gear crunch and it still shifts smooth as silk either cold or hot. When I`d tried MT90 awhile back, the transmission got really stiff once it was hot,but shifted smooth only when it was cold.

Could it be that technically the MTL is only 80W at operating temp while MT90 is 90W at operating temp, being too thick for smooth shifting? The hotter the transmission gets with the MTL,the smoother the shifting is,totally the opposite of the MT90

For the record, the MTL completely blows away the factory OEM Nissan 75W85 MTF that was initially in the transmission.

Just thought I`d share my current experience since alot of GL4 manual transmission posts have been coming up lately.

What make of vehicle?

How long did you have the Nissan fluid in the vehicle?

For the record, the Redline MTL has a viscosity equal to that of the Nissan fluid.

It`s a 1996 Nissan 300ZX n/a. Nissan MTF was in there for a couple of months. Shiftability was *ok*,but not where I was 100% satisfied.

I've seen the same behavior in my Tacoma using MT-90 and MTL however I've done with Redline for good due to transmission rear seal leak. First factory installed seal was replaced under warranty by dealer at 23K, now I have slightly over 40K and it start seeping again

From my experience with trying different manual transmission oils,Redline seems like it got its MTL right on the money! Many people on the Z forums I`m on have experienced the same thing. MTL basically worked wonders on the Z32`s VERY temperamental manual transmissions when other fluids made no difference.

After it`s been in for awhile I`m going to do as unDummy suggests and draining/refilling with MTL again (the "rinse" stage from the 1st MTL fill).

Ouch. See my posts (gripes) about MT-90 causing a leak on my Maxima's. All this long I blamed it on Nissan's cheapo seals... The "behavior" was the same; excellent cold, unshiftable without double clutching during warmup, and notchy when warm.

BTW, no worries since switching to Amsoil MTG.

I think about Amsoil as well but worry about notchy shifting... How is your Maxima performs using MTG? My 50/50 MT-90&MTL brew was the best experience I've ever had but it's getting too expensive paying for new seals every ~20K.

I used a 3.75:1 MTG and Sta-Lube 80w90 conventional to try to recondition the seal (which it did), but it is slightly notchy. After about 35K miles on this, this spring I'll be dumping this mix and will go with just Amsoil (either MTG or 3.75:1 MTG/MTF blend. I'm yet to decide).

I'll testify. IN my Ford Aspire I tried Redline MTL where ATF was called for in the 5spd and it shifter smoother than smooth.

When I drained the old fluid in my current car and filled with MT90, it immediately shifted smoother.....even before I ever cranked it. MT90 works great, but MTL was amazing. But then again, its on a different car so it is not a fair comparison.
