There was some discussion a couple of weeks ago regarding the 5-speed manual in my Saab and to what grade Saabs MTF0063 is.

After some emailing with Dave at Redline, it was determined that Saabs MTF0063 has a CST of 10.1 . Redlines MTF has a Redline of 10.6, I know there was some discussion that the MTF would be too thin for this transmission. THe previous fill on this transmission was the Saab MTF0063 which had been in the car for about 1 year (Saab recomends 66,000 mile change on the transmission fluid)

I have had the MTF in the vehicle for 2 weeks now and I must say that shifting is noticeably smoother especially downshifting, and much smoother when its cold first thing in the morning. I am curious to see how it handles the cold weather when we are in the dead of winter. As well as shifting smoother, it always seems to be a tad quieter inside the cabin.

And I was suprised to see that this stuff is pink ! the MTF is a brown .

Interesting. Is yours a late model 9-3?

I did a MT fluid swap on my 04 last year. Had to suck it out and then refill through the same hole, as the drain plug is blocked by the suspension!

I thin the 0063 was superceeded by a new pat number in the 9-3.

I think I hgave some UOAs somewhere... Ill post them when I find them.

Do you mean BOT 0402?

my saab is a2001 9-3SE. What do you guys think f mixing the MTF and the MT-90 50/50 for next summer. I am looking to do some track events or will the MTF be ok?

Do you mean MTL when you say MTF?
I use MTL and MT90 mixed 50/50, and it is wonderful. Even better shifting than MTL alone, and there mus be improved wear due the to the slightly thicker mix.
I don't have your transmission, but that mix is often used and liked.

Yes, I meant MTL when writting MTF, sorry. Mechtech2, living in Chicago you must reach similiar winter temps to where I live, how is the 50.50 mix in the winter time ?

I told you thin was great in these transmissions.

Yes you did BrianWC :) But actually, its thicker than the MTF0063 with a CST of 10.6 where as the MTF0063 has a CST of 10.1 hrmmm

Yes, I'm responding to the part where you said some said that MTL might be too thin. Cool that you found out how thin MTF0063 is! I KNEW it had to be some thin stuff. We need to share this with SC!

Saab - I have had no problems in cold weather. And we have had record breaking cold last year around here.
It was surprisingly good when cold, and I was watching closely!
I am one of those guys that shift with only a few ounces of pressure on the shifter.
But I realize your transmission is different. All I can say is that this MTL/MT90 mix is popular with many trans and transaxle users.
