Redline gear oil purchased from Amazon possibly counterfeit?

Some things are just worth the price and the wait. I ordered all the driveline fluids for my Canyon directly from Redline. Resting easy is worth the money.

Some people may remember the same thing happening with Honda DW-1 ATF, where 6-packs were being sold for less than $20 or something in that range. Some people got 6 bottles for the advertised price, others had it cancelled on them. I actually rec'd 2 orders with 6 bottles but another time, they caught it and cancelled the order. Just checked.... one order was for $16, another was for $29, and a 3rd was for $58. When I thought an order was cancelled, I vaguely recall that they only shipped (1) bottle one time and I disputed it. I think that one they told me to keep the bottle I rec'd and refunded that order.

Even the $58 order was better pricing that local dealers (that was the total with tax too).

I just purchased 12 quart bottles of Red Line 50104 75W85 GL-5 Full Synthetic Gear Oil at a ridiculously cheap price from a third party seller off the Amazon website. I think it may have been either grossly mispriced or counterfeit. The stuff was about 1/4 the cost per quart as buying by a single quart. Is it possible that it is counterfeit oil repackaged with a Redline label? I have never given it much thought until now, but you couldn't buy discount gear oil for the same cost of this premium Redline (I don't want to debate) gear oil. This could be a case of 'If its is too good to be true, it probably is'.

Any thoughts on the subject.
A couple of responses had the scam figured out. I received a package today with just one quart. I guess I will see if Amazon will make an attempt at resolution. It was too expensive for a single quart. I will write it off to experience if Amazon does not come through, a relatively cheap lesson. Next time will will look up the feedback on the actual 3rd party seller. I did not know this was even possible until now. This seller has a very bad record. About 1/2 of the seller ratings are just one star with teaser prices and short shipping a common problem

In my experience you should get either a full refund or be able to return it for no cost. Always check that refunds & returns are options before buying on Amazon.

I got counterfeit NGK spark plugs on Amazon, sold and shipped by Amazon. Not 3rd party. Was beyond return date by the time I used them and found out so I was out of luck. Not saying redline is counterfeit just saying you’re not 100% safe because it’s sold and shipped by Amazon.

Have you seen the recent Counterfeit Spark Plug review on the Torque Test YT channel? I was surprised by the results but besides that it had some very good info on spark plugs. Their findings were the same, Sold & Shipped by Amazon is no guarantee. They also did several from Ebay, Walmart, Rock Auto and others.

I have had that happen a few times where someone on Amazon or some other sight clearly priced something wrong. In each case I sat back and waited and in all but 1 instance recieved items at the low ball price. I had it happen at Summit Racing I got 3 cans of Mobil 1 Synthetic Grease for the price of 1 can any place else. It did take 6 months and I had to confirm on 3 seperate ocassions I wanted my product at that price over a quicker refund due to back order. I am still waiting on a box of ammo from Optics Planet for the same reason and order is still active.

Red Lines Gear Lubes have a much softer sulfur and phospurous(sp) smell than 99% of gear lubes. It still has that gear lube smell but not as strong and the esters in it give it a slight hint or artifical fruit flavor in the background if that makes any sense. Kind of like how you can sometimes pick up notes of choclate, coffee, vanillia, or fruit in a Burbon. Their ATF's do not have a strong parrafin smell if you grab a bottle of Toyota WS and stack a sniff is smells like a rancid parafin candel if you then take a whiff of Red Line D6 you do not get any of that smell at all!
