Redline 5w-30 or 5w-40 to reduce wear in e46 with 310k miles

Motul 5w40 has been performing very well for last 1500 miles. The car seems to run stronger and smoother and has a more solid feel compared to Mobil euro 0w40. I wonder if this makes sense- this impression seems more than just my imagination
It is ok to have strong imagination šŸ˜‚
If anything, Motul will affect performance due to higher HTHS. Again, ā€œas thin as possible, as thick as necessary.ā€

I’m sensing a consensus that maybe a lighter or different oil (like Castrol 0w30 or the Mobil 1 0w40 o perhaps Motul 0w30 specific) might be a bit better choice that the Motul 5w40 excess

X-Cess is fine. I use it too. HTHS is 3.8, so not too high. Do you need it? Probably not. I use currently in BMW edge 0W30.
300V (which I will use next as I have on the shelf) is waste in street driving only. HTHS is very high, which is good on track. But on street, you really want street oil.
Some oils will run smoother, especially if they have higher levels of Boron.

I run 3.8 HTHS in my Mazda 3 2.5 filled with 5W-20 from factory. I’m sure you are 100% fine in a BMW M5x designed for 3.5 HTHS oils.

Much appreciated - interesting about the boron- wonder if Motul has a bit more?
