Red Line HDEO and Moly

Most folks know that Red Line oil contains high doses of Moly ~950ppm, but their 5W40 oil, which is suitable for CJ-4 service contains much less Moly ~100ppm. Is high Moly content bad for diesel engines? Does it result in more soot? Just trying to understand what the operational differences are that makes high Moly okay for gasoline engines, but not diesels?

High amounts of MolyDisulfide in the past caused corrosion of copper-alloy roller pins that were used in many diesel engines.

High amounts of any additive can cause corrosion of certain parts in the engine. This can occur if they get too carried away with zddp also. like 1800 ppm zinc and 1600 ppm phosphorous.

In my past e-mails with Dave, the lower levels of moly is for CJ-4 compliance. (ash levels, IIRC)

I thought he also mentioned that (even) the soluble moly they add can cause an oil to be high SAPS in the higher doses (not just the ZDDP)??

Thanks for the replies guys. I do ask Dave questions about Red Line oils and I will ask him about the Moly in their CJ-4 service oils as well. But I wanted to hear opinions from a larger very knowledgeable group in this forum as well. I am considering switching from Red Line 5W50 with a generous dose of Moly to their 5W40, which only has a moderate amount.
