Red Line Euro 5w30 VOA - 01.27.2022

I mainly wanted something that would respond well after a -40F/12 hour cold soak which is not uncommon. The diesels I have would labor and sound like they were initially running without pressure with the factory fill Castrol, this was corroborated by the low pressure lamp on the dash. I switched to Red Line and there was a world of difference. Faster cranking and no strange engine noises, almost immediate pressure. Ravenol was also good. Mobil 1 was better than the Castrol but not as good as the Red Line/Ravenol using the above non-scientific paramaters. The Valvoline sounds almost as good as the boutiques. I am now retired so the 12 hour cold soaks are a thing of the past. The Valvoline is 40% cheaper than the Red Line and 50% cheaper than the Ravenol. I can't really justify the cost anymore. I didn't try Amsoil as I don't support quasi MLM products.
Good info !!
I agree

I wonder if Redline's new pricing is killing sales, as I can't/won't pay the $5.00 per Qt price increase gouge. No way did their materials go up that high. Amsoil only did a small bump. I am mulling over switching all my cars gear oils too. Redline lost me on their gouge.
I agree and was going to start a thread on my best options.

Are most of these oils overkill? Sometimes, but I'm sure most agree that many here want some overkill and many times some engines just do better on these high-end oils.

That being said, I'm likely going to stop using Redline as the price for 5W-30 is not worth it to me over other options.

About $15 per quart on the cheap end? No thanks. However I'm still exploring options and my decision can sway, but would be a hard sell.

Why not? I do 2 oil changes a year, it's two +50 bucks a year (compared to PUP) for a better oils that is actually fully synthetic.
