Does Red Line C+ tranny fluid meet Chrysler ATF+4 specs? the bottle only states tpye 2 and type 3. Or is it better to just use the OEM factory fluid. I have been using Red Lines D4 in my Toyota with great results so I would like to use Red Line in my new jeep, but I know chrysler's can be very finicky about the type of tranny fluid used.Any ideas?

Being a long time Jeep owner, I wouldn't mess with their already fragile transmissions. Use the OEM ATF+4 that is the new replacement fluid to the ATF+3 EXCEPT in the minivans. The ATF+4 is a very high quality semi-synthtic fluid, just do a regular fluid/filter changes. For $99 every 30K, I let the dealer do the fluid/filter exchange.

I have been useing Redline C+ATF in my 2001 Dakota since new. Redline told me that it could be used in any vechile requireing ATF+4.

dagmonda, If he has the 45RFE then one filter is $34.00, the other is $16 and the ATF+4 is $7.95 a quart x 7-8 quart plus labor. The $99 dollar deal you get in the mail has a disclaimer depending on trans and fluid type that it might be higher. If he has one of the older transmissions like the 500 series then he is styling! Anyone needing filters or other trany parts should try www.bulkparts.com good prices on maintence items!!!

johnbrowing, The jeep has a 7 year 70,000 warranty which I don't want to lose and the guy at the parts counter who seemed to be very cool about everything said that if you don't have receipts to prove that you used ATF+4 then good luck getting any kind of warranty work done if you have tranny problems.Since it seems that the tranny in this jeep may not be the best built unit I wonder if it is worth playing around with aftermarket fluids since Chrysler is so adamint about using there ATF+4.I do think that Red line is a better product than the oem but I don't want the B.S that comes with fighting with the stealership to get warranty work done.Besides the Red line c+ does not claim to be for ATF+4 applications as per the lable and with out something in writting your on your owen. Also the OEM ATF+4 states that it is a group 4 oil, isn't that a synthetic anyway? they also say that it is "a fill for life" fluid. Yea right who's life? the tranny or the warranty? I wonder if the dealer would have to prove that the fluid was the problem to void your warranty or could they refuse your repairs due to the fact that is was not their fluid in the tranny.

Well I found out for shure and Red Line C+ atf meets ATF+4 specs and then some, so I will be installing the Redline C+ in the tranny, transfer case and power steering, I will use Red Line 75W 140 in the front and rear diff's. as well. I purchased the Red line from our new sponser and they were great, they even called Red line to make shure that I was using the right products, it's good to find a company thats customer service oriented.

Amsoil ATF is another good choice and many people have reported great results even though others are still not 100% convinced that it meets ATF+4 because it's a "universal" fluid. On the JU forum, there are many posts praising the switch to Amsoil ATF in their Jeep transmissions after a FULL fluid exchange(full flush). They reported a much smoother shifting and quieter tranny. I don't know if that's just because of the "FULL" flush or the actual switch to Amsoil ATF. I wonder if performing a FULL flush with Mopar ATF+4 has the same results. To be on the safe side I'm doing a FULL flush using Mopar ATF+4....$20\gallon at the dealer....$5\quart, not bad.

I think it's odd that they would come back with this answer, because on the RedLine website they only recommend the oil for the MS 7176 Chrysler Spec. This isn't the +4. I'm still afraid of anything but the dealer product.

To me the hangup is that Chrysler specifies not only the performance of the fluid, but the base stock components.

We haven't heard from anyone here that anything has changed regarding licensing by Chrysler; the oil companies were meeting with Chrysler at the last update to insist that the situation change, but we didn't hear that anything came of it.

I'm waiting for an aftermarket +4 also, and I'm continuing to wait..

dkcase; The new Red line littature says the their C+ replaces ATF+,ATF+2,ATF+3 and ATF+4. So I think it's safe to use, and I also belive that since it is a high quality full synthetic that it will protect the tranny ALOT better than the OEM fluid. Red line has always made great high preformance products used in all out race cars, so I can't see how it won't work in a stock tranny.I think that we might be worrying a little to much about nothing.

If DC is the only people able to get the ATF+4 spec. fluid and you must use ATF+4 to maintain warranty then they need to be giveing it to you for free! You need to read the 7/70 warranty more closely. After the 3/36 it is a service contract with a deductiable I belive. Save the reciept and the Redline brouchure! I have used it and been nothing but happy with it. THe 45RFE is proably one of the finest tranys that DC has designed and built. It is used behind the 4.7 and 5.7 in cars, trucks, and suv's. I also would not hesitate to use OEM fluid if you were this nervious about warranty. THeir is no sense in useing any product that causes you to lose sleep!!

Johnbrowing, I changed the tranny fluid in the Jeep about a week or so ago and it shifts like butter, major improvment over the oem fluid. As far as the warranty goes, who cares, with the Red line in the tranny, that will most likely be the last thing to go on this truck.

Plex I am glad you are happy with it. I changed mine in the middle of winter and noticed a huge difference in shift quality when cold. It did not shift like a trany full of cold fluid.

I changed my fluid and filters at 10,000 miles initialy. I had to go in for some warranty work 6 different times dureing the next 20,000 miles on this fill of Redline. My Service writer and his Foreman were astonished to see that my seals were not leaking. It seems that all of the other Dodge and Jeep trucks and SUV's with that trany seemed to weep trany fluid from the rear seal. All of my tranny seals were tight and dry! It never used any fluid at all. I also never had any problems with my transmission!
