for light duty work, air up tires, lug nut, brake job.... rarely use, but mostly air up tires. this is my first one, and I want it to last a while. and I like it as a kit would be nice. Budget is around 100-150.

Id go with the makita single tank unit. Air tools require a big compressor depending upon use, for lug nuts, Id buy a 120V impact gun. I have a Milwaukee and it is good.

you right, I think i use air compressor for air up tires more then doing lug nut or brake type. What do you recomment just air up tires most of the time.

and for impact, I think imma get electric one.

again, the single tank makita. Have a look on here for discussion, I believe it was the makita 700.

well you could buy the little oilless HF compressor that is really small and light. But Id save for a decent one and pay cash for it.

you talking about this one ?

No, I have this one:

http://www.harborfreight.com/air-tools/a...ssor-97080.html because it was smaller and lighter than the other one with the same air. It wont do much of anything of use, but it will top off tires and make loud noises. wear earplugs!

I bought that one about 3 months ago just for topping off tires. Its quicker/easier to tote that out front to air up tires than to unwind 100 feet of hose from my air line hookup on my big compressor.

Those are $39 all day with coupons in the back of magazines. I still have a couple of valid coupons laying around somewhere.

If you are going to use an impact gun for heavy duty automotive work, then a pancake compressor won't cut it. You'll need a 25 gallon compressor to keep up with your air tools demands, look for the CFM rating.

I have a porter cable pancake compressor and it runs air tools, floor nailers and is good for inflating tires and sports balls.

I upgraded and bought a used Coleman 25 gallon air compressor for $80 off a local guy. I wanted this compressor for my Air impact gun, since I've needed a larger compressor for any automotive work.

The Harbour Freight compressors have had mixed reviews so you could get a good one or a lemon.

A good compressor will last you more than 20 years.

Bought my Campbell Hausfeld 5hp 25gal castiron in 1995 still going strong. Replaced pressure switch 5yrs back for about $20 only repair so far. Change oil once a year and I don't have to wear earplugs like the folks with oiless should.

I, too, am in the market for an air compressor and I found this thread via the search function. The function actually works sometimes!

That said, what are the advantages and disadvantages of an oil-less versus an oiled compressor?

I'd mostly use mine for tire inflation, but I also want to be able to perform light nailing or stapling work. The use of air tools beyond that would be unlikely.

I was thinking of something in the 5 gallon or less category.

Got one of these the other day that came with a kit of tools thrown in (rattle gun, tyre inflator, ball adaptors, and parts blower).

Never again will I be without a compressor....should have got one 20 years ago
