Fighting with the Jeep lug bolts yesterday I scratched an edge using my regular HF impact sockets. I want to get some better non-marring ones also reading the DT thread with scratched wheels.

From links @Trav put for other stuff and some other members listed, these KOKEN longer ones seem nice I would just need to get a 22mm also for the Pilot. The Milwaukee ShockWave ones from HD seem to be mixed reviews with breaking them. I'm definitely not a daily tire remover so maybe not an issue.

Any other recommended ones? Current vehicles need 17, 19, 21, 22mm.

If so, why bother with impact? In almost 40 years of wrenching I've never once used an impact wrench on lug nuts. Four-way lug wrench with wheel on the ground has always been adequate. In rare cases I've had to whip out a breaker bar.

Wheels (and even lug nuts) are too pretty and fragile these days to not remove and loosen nuts by hand.

6 vehicles in fleet plus help others. Winter/summer tire change overs. Once using the impact it it's like walking, riding a bike, driving. You'll get there walking just takes longer than a bike or driving. As I get older and more stiff joints, knee surgeries the less time the better.

I think over the years I also scratched a couple by "spinning" the 4 way to get them off all the way and it hits.

I keep having a problem with my flip sockets and even regular impact sockets "sticking" after torquing with a TW. Then I have to remove TW and tap the socket with a BFH to get it off. Annoying.

I'm tempted to try the Kokens for this reason alone. But I imagine higher quality flip sockets might solve this, too

I actually prefer my extra thinwall Snap-On impact sockets (SIMMF21A) for wheels over any of the sleeved options. In most situations, getting the wheel perfectly square (on the hub) before fully tightening the fasteners will allow most sockets to not damage the wheels.

But I do own a few sets of the Koken wheel sockets and they are excellent. Amazon Japan has the best prices for them.

Most of mine has been on removal and that if I'm not holding the wheel against hub with foot.

Going on I always start by hand a couple turns and then holding wheel square still go slow to seat them all before any "impacts". Then I go around to all normally on my lowest impact setting and then finish with a torque wrench.
