Recommendations on changing 1st oil filter?

First post, about the first filter change... I tried searching, but found nothing applicable, so I'm asking: should the first (as installed at assembly) oil filter be pulled and changed early, or wait till the first oil / filter change? I ask, because during the initial break-in, I would expect lots of debris to be introduced into the system. This fouls the filter, which if sufficiently fouled goes into bypass. From this point on, until it is changed out, that debris is recirculating causing higher amounts of wear.

Any thoughts?

Well, I wouldn't worry about loading the filter too much. Depending on the vehicle you may want to swap everything out somewhere between 500-1000 miles. Now if it's a Honda ..you'll be cast into the great flaming abyss for eternity if you change both before 10,000m/1 year. IF you just change the filter ..you may be able to work your way out of it with good deeds.

Be prepared for a half hours worth of cussing and aggravation trying to get that bad boy off! They like to put filters on at the factory with some kind of super human strength. A strap wrench would be the best bet if it's really on there good.

Simple answer. Change the filter the first and every time you change the oil.

If it's a new car then I change the oil and filter after 1,000 miles.

Just cause the 800 pound gorilla put on the filter at the factory does not mean it is tight. I am sure the silver back could get it off no problems for you.

Yup them puppies are tight!!!!

GOt a good filter wrench and sometimes end up splitting the first filter open by crushing them to get them off. YIKES!!! Lube the gasket please!!!

Thousand or so, change both. Those pointing it out above are right. The factory original filter is always a b---- to get lose. I used to think this was just a Japanese thing, until we bought our first Ohio built Accord. I then tought it was a Honda thing, until we bought our Aerostar.

Change them both at 3K.

My first filter on the 07 Accord came off breezily easily. No problem. Maybe "most", but definitely not "all".
