I have an 05 Accord with 90k on it. I change the oil (either Mobil 1 EP or Pennz Ultra) every 4k. just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for preventive maintenance on this particular car? I drive about 100 miles per day half rough driving in the city and half on the turnpike.

Any recommendations as far as oil brands, frequency, other items to be on top of to get another 100k out of this vehicle?

Yeah Id run the non-severe interval on that and see how far you can go via TBN/TAN out of UOA to have a real, analytical basis for your selection.

05 Accord EX 2.4 auto w/45k mi.

I use Pennzoil Ultra and PureOne most of the time about once a year.

I Drained and filled coolant (Honda Type II) from the radiator drain, once. Also drained and filled the transmission fluid (Honda DW-1) at the pan, and changed the in-line transmission filter once. Changed front and rear pads with Wagner ThermoQuiet (premature) and flushed the brake fluid. Changed engine air filter with a regular fram and cleaned the throttle body. (it was pretty clean already) All of these were done a little over a year ago, by me. I will continue to drain and fill both the coolant and transmission fluid with Honda fluids about every other year. Brake fluid will probably get flushed every few years with off the shelf brake fluid.

Cabin filter has been replaced twice I think, and the tires have been replaced once, but those will depend on your area/driving habits. I clean and treat the leather seats 2-3 times a year. I replaced one rear door lock actuator and one brake light bulb and that's the total for maintenance and repairs.

I have a 2005 with 160,000 miles. Runs like new.

Plugs every 80-100k, Coolant 100k, then every 50k or so. MTF every 30-50k. Not sure about the ATF.

PCV valve should not have to be replaced. Mine stayed clean for over 110k miles.

If you use M1/PU, I'd at least go 6-10k miles on the oil.

Do you notice any oil consumption and what speed do you drive in the TP?

Time to do your plugs and valve adjust. NGK 6994 is the correct plug.

Frequent oil changes are a good practice. Strictly from personal observation, the ones that see extended intervals tend to have oil consumption and leaks later in life, even with synthetic.

4K on Pennz Ultra or M-1?! IMHO that's a waste.
Yes, you don't need synthetic, that is OEM for fancy cars- mercedes, porsche, which might not even last a long as Honda.
And they have 12,000 mile intervals. You do not. Honda will last.long with standard oil.

Welcome to BITOG !

For your vehicle, in order of importance, I would recommend :

1. Transmission Fluid Exchange ( 3 x drain and fill OR flush via cooler line method ). For fluid, my choice would be Maxlife ATF, Honda DW-1 OR Castrol Import Vehicle ATF. There are many other fluids also compatible but these three are the easiest to find and are relatively well priced.

2. Brake Fluid Exchange ( Honda recommends every 36 mnths regardless of mileage )

3. Power Steering Fluid Exchange ( use turkey baster method with Genuine Honda/Acura PSF ONLY ! Honda P/S racks are unique and leak when almost any other PSF is used. )

4. Spark Plugs ( I recommend NGK or Denso Iridium plugs. Check websites for the correct part# for your make and model )

5. Run a bottle of Redline SI-1 or Chevron Techron with a full tank of gas till almost empty to clean your Fuel System out.

6. I assume you have kept up with the filters/brakes so far. If not, I recommend a visual inspection to make sure these parts are in healthy conditions.

7. If you have a V6 model, you should now start saving for a timing belt service which will be due at 100k~105k. When you do get around to getting this done, make sure a complete kit is installed. Kits come with all new belt, water pump, bearings and tensioners. Getting these replaced at the same time saves ALOT of labor were these parts ever to fail. Replacing the drive belts would not be a bad idea as well. Head over to RockAuto.com if you have someone reliable who can perform these svcs.

8. Coolant flush ( should be done after a timing belt/water pump replacement )

9. I agree with others here. If you do 4k mile oci, I higly suggest switching from PU or M1 EP to a higly regarded conventional or syn blend oil like Mobil Super 5000 OR Pennzoil Yellow Bottle or Valvoline Maxlife. You will save a considerable amount of cash with almost no difference in performance/wear ( I say almost because wear is always going to change with a switch in oil. Usually in miniscule amounts). It might even get better, I certainly dont see it getting worse.
