Recommendation for 700whp B5 S4?

I was fairly lucky with my first B5 S4. I bought it used around 2012 and it had tons of issues but once I sorted those out it was fairly reliable. I had some issues related to modifications but can't blame the car for those lol. After initially replacing tons of gaskets, sensors, fixing vacuum leaks, etc lol it was solid for like four years. Only major issue was needing a starter but it had over 130k miles at that point.

My wife had a B5 A4 and then a MKV GTI and both of those cars were massive piles 😂 it was just one thing after another with those.

So toss a coin I guess lol. In my opinion, it seems European cars are less tolerant of neglect than others. The first owner is late on one oil change and now it's a lifetime problems, meanwhile a Toyota Camry just chugs on and on like who even needs oil?

If you can't afford a new Audi you can't afford to maintain an old one.

This is pretty solid advice for any average person looking to buy a euro. If you can perform all your own repairs, then it's a different story. But that's not really the average person.

It seems a lot of BMWs, Audis, etc end up in such sorry shape because anyone can afford the cost of purchase but maybe not the cost of maintenance. That used BMW might not cost much more than a used Honda but it's still 10 hours labor to do an oil pan gasket lol

I have a troublesome B5 S4 that may be running again sometime soon and I was wondering what my best bet for oil would be?

The engine has been bored/stroked to 3.0L running a single EFR8374 on e85, revving to 8500rpm.

I had been running Motul 300V 5w-40 but I'm not sure this is the best oil considering the ethanol?

This has only seen street use, so far, but I'm a child and it was hitting the rev limiter pretty much every time I drove it 😅

I would, of course, love to track it if it's ever operational long enough. But I had been primarily using it on my hour long commute.

I'd like to stick to something available from FCP, due to the lifetime replacement but if Castrol Edge or something simple is adequate I think I can swing the cost lol

Thanks in advance!
Does it have cats still? Or catch cans for the PCV system?

No cats and a vented catch can
So you wouldn't have any issues running an oil with high levels of ZDDP...levels that are too high to be able to qualify for the latest API ratings.
There are a ton of both used and virgin oil analysis reports here that could help you narrow down your selection.

Is it that good? I've seen that it seems to be held in high regard here. I really don't know what my biggest concerns should be regarding oil choice. Ethanol dilution and high rpms I guess? I've never seen temps any higher than normal but I also haven't pushed the car for any extended period. Mostly just rip through a few gears here and there.
No it's not really that good. It's consistently average for the top synthetics based on numerous youtube shootouts. Plus my personal experiences with M1 and other synthetics puts Pennzoil Platinum as my oil of choice with no hesitation.

Oooh Noggy blue, too..

Brilliant black first but I had to have the noggy lol

Mobil 1 super car 5w50

I've just done some quick reading on this and I'm really liking the sound of it. I have no idea what my bearing clearances are though. I'm assuming they're at the stock spec, in which case a 50 might be a bit thick.

I'll have to see if the machine shop has records from four years ago lol

Check with Mobil 1 they may still produce the super car 0w40

It's shocking how much power you can pump out of those turbo 6s in these things. I had an instructor a few years ago at VIR that had one as his track car..beast.

This. If you could go back in time and buy many of these type of cars new, maintain at the highest levels, they would be fine. The Euro shop I use always says this: "That Bentley you bought used for $20K is still a $200K car and has the maintenance/repair costs of a $200K car." They see it all the time...buy a cheap 20 year old German luxury car then realize they can't afford to fix/maintain it. The part the Toyota/boring/applicance crew can't get their head around is how much power you can make out of a lot of these German cars b/c they were built and engineered so well - but that is the double-edged sword of why there is a high cost to maintaining them and they certainly aren't for the average person but a B5/5.5 S4 with a 6 speed, tune, and better turbos is an absolute beast.
