Recommend me a box truck

My friend actually does that...he drives an ex-UHaul F350 14' truck. It has ~290,000 miles, gas 460 power.

For that, I would go for a 14' F350, one of the newer Super Dutys with the V10.

Box truck, gas, 8-12k or more for hauling chips to stores....

Seems that a step van would also fit the bill and be a lot more practical. Get to your destination, walk to the back, collect product, out the back door, into the store, back in and off you go. Seems there is a reason most delivery companies use them.

As for the links, seem to be appropriate...

Yes a step van would be optimal if I could get one big enough. With the warehouse being 30 miles away the less trips there the better with the terrible gas mileage. So if I have a bigger truck I can make 2 trips instead of 3 and a big gas savings. I think I need an 18 footer for sure. A 16 footer might just not fit enough.

The local Snap On guy has a step van that is quite large (he lives in our neighborhood) but I'd imagine those are very hard to come by and when they do they are pretty much run to the end of their lives.

Big thing with Stepvans: the drivers freeze in the winter, and parboil in the summer. (120 degrees in the cab area isn't unusual.)

Not coincidentally, I do not see owner-ops using them!

Except they are all diesel!

I'll definitely avoid the Isuzu then. I have a little while before I need one. I'm just trying to get my research in now that way I know what I want when the time comes.

DoubleWasp, is that Chevy truck with 400,000 miles on it diesel? If not how long are the Chevy and GMC gas box trucks good for? Should I be worried once a gas truck hits over 200,000 miles?

She's a gas model. Last of the 5.7 engines.

I would worry about nothing after 200k miles, except for maybe the fuel pump? Maybe? . Every time a local company does a fleet scrap of multiple vans, everyone goes down to the salvage yard that receives them to grab as many engines as they can, because it's well known that they all still work.

With regards to step vans, I'd stay away. The regular van body is far more comfortable. It's easily the most refined of the American vans, and you won't feel like you're driving a Bluebird school bus.

Step vans can be had in gas, but why? Step vans are something that employers put people into. Nobody actually wants one for themselves, except for tool dealers.

Besides, if you do need maintenance or repair items, do you want to drop in on an auto parts store and get cheap parts 7 days a week, even at night? Or go to some truck dealer who has to order everything out for you at a mint?

We have found them to be very reliable and have excellent resale even when thoroughly used...

So we do agree on something!

Indeed we do. You and I are probably more in agreement than not, actually!
