I have one of those. A green Stanley does a fine job, but NOT the ones you find at Walmart. Take the one you have now (that you don't like); and look at the bottom of it. Most likely Made in China. I'm not sure the exact year Stanley moved, but they USED to be made in Nashville, TN, USA. I think mine is from about 1994. All you need to do is an eBay search for "Vintage Stanley Thermos" and find one Made in USA in the size you like.

Mine keeps my coffee hot enough to drink well into the afternoon; and yes, filling it with boiling water for 5 minutes before putting in whatever you want to keep hot really helps. Here is an example, read the writing on the bottom: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-ALADDIN-STANLEY-A-944DH-GREEN-1-QUART-THERMOS-/112324221087?hash=item1a270b989f:g:1P4AAOSwfVpYu3I2

Absolutely not. This is the first thing my mind fixated on as well. It is what I consider a classic motion picture moment.

I have a VERY old Thermos with a glass vacuum bottle lining. It is awesome, unless you drop it.

+1 I have one manufactured in 1992, Nashville. I use it every day.

The Ozark Trail numbers don’t work nearly as well for hot as cold in my opinion, the tops on them also are not good, you’re constantly having to fix the seal.

I have a Starbucks vacuum flask that keeps coffee hot until well into the afternoon, my wife has a similar on made by OGGI she got at Walmart or Target that is nearly as good.

You want the ones with the rubber seal when you latch the top.

I was going to suggest the same. If you can boil a kettle of water while you make your coffee, you can use that water to preheat the thermos. Then the coffee doesn't cool down much, if at all when you pour it into the pre-heated thermos.
