Have an '01 Toy RAV 4, automatic. Doing my first transmission fluid change. The owner's manual says to use (of course) Toyota fluid T-IV. Don't know what this means. Is there a syntectic I can use? Mobil ATF is Dexron-III. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.

As far as I am aware if your vechile requires T-IV you are out of luck! If on the other hand the dip stick or owners manual says Dex III then you are styleing!

Amsoil's web site says their ATF replaces Toyota Type IV.

I didn't take any chances with regard to our 99 ES300, I had the the Toyota fluid put in it.

Bill,

The only source for Toyota T-IV ATF is from the dealership. Amsoil is the only aftermarket brand that claims, "Recommended for applications requiring...Toyota Type T and T-IV." Note that this ATF is not qualified by Toyota as Type T-IV, and technically does not satisfy your warranty obligations.
