recent weed eater buyers-- i need one

I'd recommend the Echo, but I'm not a recent buyer so I guess I don't qualify. My SRM-210 (now a 225 model) is 25 years old and I still use it all the time. Ran a tank of gas through it today, matter of fact - 650' of fencing both sides plus trimming around the house, and clearing out some tall weeds behind our lot. A workhorse!

As others mentioned, get a size up if you're planning to do extensive heavy duty weedeating. For regular grass cutting though, 21.2cc is more than enough.

I also own a SRM-230 (22.8cc) machine bought in approx. 2004, and a CS-300 chainsaw from around the same time. Filter/plug replacements and a carb or rebuild due to sitting for a while. Can't recommend Echo enough!

For some reason, I go with Husqvarna for chainsaws though.

Been happily using my two year old Craftsman. I had to initially tweek the carb right out of the box. After that, no problems. My two prior Craftsmans each lasted atleast 15 years. For myself, I see no reason to spend a lot of money to to trim my residential property. If you take care of it, it will perform.

I have a Stihl FS70r and am very happy with it.

I'm happy with my fs70 as well.

Its amazing the vibration difference between it and my makita. The makitas straight shaft vs cable and super balanced electric has almost zero - using the two back to back is dramatic.

The Makitas downfall is the runtime on high speed, that said speed two is just fine for maintenance.

I bought a Stihl FS131R April of last year. Use it year round to trim about 1 1/2 acres with 1/4 mile roadway, some ditches and waters edge. It's a 4 stroke but you have to add oil to the gas. It has a lot of power and does a good job of knocking down the reeds and tall grass. A bit on the heavy side, easy to start. I like it so far.

Bought an Echo SRM 225 to use while my FS91 Stihl was being repaired. Very happy with it. Much lighter and cuts better than it should for it's size. I run .095" in mine. Stihl Ultra mix.
My grandson uses an FS56 Stihl. Has done well for them.
If deciding between two brands, I suggest going with the one that has a servicing dealer. Most need a part or two at some point and you can get an warranty work done easier.

Not sure on the warranty of others but Husqvarna will give you a 5 year warranty if you buy some of their premix fuel at the same time you buy the trimmer.

I’m very pleased with my Husqvarna 525L. I run tru-fuel in it, I have quite a bit to weed whack (got a big hill I can’t get too with the mower, plus a bunch of kids crap in the back yard) and it seems super fuel efficient.

I bought an EFCO DS2200 a few years ago and this thing is a beast. I never heard of the brand before but it has been a solid weed eater.

I told my wife when I die I want that in my casket with me.

I have an Echo.... It's probably bigger than I need but it seems to cut through anything, even if I neglect the yard all season. Always starts easily.

my 25 year old Stihl gave up this year, no one could find parts so I went the electric route with an EGo 650. Love it, no more gas/oil no more spark arrestor issues, no plugs more than enough power and battery lasts me a month before recharging. Blower and mower, when they go will be electric as well. Ah, no more ear muffs either!
