Alright had my rear engine mount changed yesterday on my 92 Accord LX AT. Now I don't know if it is just me who has been driving on a bad mount for several years and not used to what a new one feels like, but the way my car drives just doesn't feel right to me. This only happens when in first gear and accelerating from a cold stop. Unlike before when accelerating the engine has a deeper sound and there is a very noticeable vibration felt through the steering and pedals, it almost feels like when there is a huge hole in the exhaust pipe right underneath the engine and you can feel it all through the front end. But as soon as the car picks up speed towards the end of the first gear and switches into second it is smooth sailing. And I tried it in reverse and nothing, only when it is in first and accelerating from a cold stop?

What is this? I had my mechanic check the mounts while he changed the rear hydraulic mount and he told me all the other mounts were in good condition. I know he told me he had removed the cross member, passenger side drive shaft, and battery box, could one of these things have not been fastened properly and cause this?

Sounds like something has changed for the worse, maybe he messed up the exhaust donut by letting the engine hang or something? I'd take it back and talk to the service manager, let them know they made it worse, not better.
I had a mount replaced and they forgot to tighten one of the bolts... I found it the next day and snugged it down but I did call and let them know that someone dropped the ball....

Did you get a genuine honda part? Those hydraulic mounts are specifically tuned, something like an "Anchor" generic might cause resonance.

Also might be worth checking exhaust rubber mounts for stretching.

No I didn't go genuine for an old car like that, I bought this one "Rear Mount "

But if the exhaust system was messed up wouldn't it also show signs of that when in reverse or in higher gears?

You should bring it back to the shop and tell them that since the mount was replaced you've had this vibration. They should only charge you if it is not related to the work they did. It's possible that jacking up the engine to get the old mount up caused another to break. That is not their fault. Its an old car. Give them the chance to fix it for you but if it is not their fault you are obligated to pay for it. If it is their fault like an exhaust heat shield got bent and was rattling they are obligated to bend it back or whatever they may need to do to stop it from rattling.

rubber mounts should only be OE, IMO. Lots of really lousy, sometimes counterfeit Chinese junk out there.

A generic mount could change operation somewhat, but I would go after something else not being right. Be in the car with the SM to reproduce, so they cannot claim that they could not reproduce it...

Which one did u buy the cheaper one or the more expensive. Those mounta are vacuum controlled

I bought the one in this link. The one for the AT that is hydraulic controlled. And I went under the car the other day and checked it out the vacuum pump is working correctly. I had my mechanic test drive it also and he honestly doesn't feel a thing wrong with it, but he is going to inspect it more thoroughly next week when he is free. Maybe it is just me who has been driving with a busted mount for a couple of years and finally got around the getting a new one.
