Rear differential gear oil change question.

I`m going to change the rear differential gear oil on my car here soon. I`ll probably use either Mobil 1 75W90 or 75W140. I see alot of high horsepower twin turbo Z`rs using the 75W140 weight.

What`s everyone`s opinion and advice?

Smart move, I'd definitely go thicker. Use the 140wt.

Quick story. When the 04 nissan titans came out it was spec'ed for i believe 75w-90. After numerous reports about problems with the rear differentials, they changed their specs to 75w-140. Im using the mobil 1 75w-140wt on my 06 titan. I'd go thicker.

A thicker oil will give better film strength but gets rid of heat slower and there is more drag in cold weather.Amsoil has a 75W-110 out now thats an option.

Greaser thanks for mentioning the 75W-110. The proper link is here: Amsoil SVT 75W-110 Although for this differential, the Amsoil SVO 75W-140 would be my recommendation for warm climates.

I'm going to switch my Ranger (spec'd for 80w-90) to Mobil 1 75w-140. While we're on the subject, do you guys use any type of chemical to clean out the differential (brake cleaner, etc.), or do you just drain and fill?

Ive got Amsoil 75W90 and here in Texas and even when i did a 1500 mile tow never had a issue.

I use brake clean then blow everything out with compressed air.
